Terms and Policies
Blogger is a service intended for self-expression and
communication. We believe that Blogger enhances the dissemination of
information, encourages healthy debate, and fosters new connections between
people. We also believe that censoring this content is contrary to a service
founded on freedom of expression.
However, to uphold these values, we must restrict misconduct
that threatens our ability to provide this service and the freedom of
expression it supports. Therefore, Blogger has established certain content
restrictions. These limitations are based on both legal requirements and the
goal of improving the overall service.
We rely on blog readers to report content they believe
violates Blogger’s Community Guidelines. If you come across a post that you
think breaches our guidelines, please report it using the “Report Abuse” link
in the action menu of most blogs. If this link isn’t visible, you can still
report suspicious violations here.
Content Boundaries
Our content policies play a vital role in maintaining a
positive experience for users. Please respect these guidelines. Occasionally,
we may update our content policies, so please review them regularly. Note that
when applying these policies, we may make exceptions based on artistic,
educational, documentary, or scientific considerations, or where there is
significant public interest in not taking action on content.
Adult Content
We allow adult content on Blogger, including images or
videos containing nudity or sexual acts. If your blog includes adult content,
please mark it as 'adult' in your Blogger settings. We may also mark blogs as
adult if the owner has not done so. All blogs marked as 'adult' will be placed
behind an interstitial warning screen. Do not attempt to bypass or disable the
warning screen—it exists to protect users.
There are some exceptions to our adult content policy:
- Do
not use Blogger as a means to make money from adult content. For example,
do not create blogs that contain ads or links to commercial pornography
sites.
- We
do not allow illegal pornography, including content (images, video, or
text) that depicts or promotes rape, incest, bestiality, or necrophilia.
- Do
not post or distribute private nude or sexually explicit images or videos
without the subject’s consent. If someone has posted such content of you,
please report it here.
Child Safety
We have a zero-tolerance policy for content that exploits
children. Examples include:
- Child
Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM): We will terminate accounts found to
publish or distribute CSAM and report the user to law enforcement.
- Sexualization
of minors: Do not publish content that promotes or incites sexual
attraction to children. For example, avoid blogs with suggestive
collections of images or text involving minors.
Hate Speech
While our products promote free expression, we do not allow
hate speech. Hate speech includes content that promotes or condones violence or
is primarily intended to incite hostility toward individuals or groups based on
race, ethnicity, religion, disability, age, nationality, veteran status, sexual
orientation, gender, gender identity, or other characteristics associated with
systemic discrimination or marginalization.
Shocking Content
Do not post content solely intended to be shocking or
graphic. For example, close-up collections of gunshot wounds or accident scenes
without context or commentary violate this policy.
Violence
Do not post violent or gory content meant to shock,
sensationalize, or glorify violence. If posting graphic content for news,
documentary, scientific, or artistic purposes, provide enough information to
help people understand what is happening. Extremely violent or graphic content
may be disallowed regardless of context. Encouraging others to commit specific
acts of violence is strictly prohibited.
Terrorist Content
We do not allow terrorist organizations to use Blogger for
any purpose, including recruitment. Content that promotes terrorism, incites
violence, or praises terrorist attacks is prohibited.
If you publish terrorism-related content for educational,
documentary, scientific, or artistic purposes, ensure the context is clear.
Graphic or controversial footage may be subject to age restrictions or warning
screens.
Harassment and Threats
Do not harass or bully others. Users who harass or bully via
Blogger may have their content removed or be permanently banned. Online
harassment is illegal in many places and may have serious real-world
consequences. Do not threaten others, for example by posting death threats or
inciting violence against individuals or groups.
Copyright
We respond to clear notices of alleged copyright
infringement. Learn more about our copyright procedures here. Do not link to
websites that allow users to illegally download copyrighted materials.
Personal and Confidential Information
Do not post other people’s personal or confidential
information. This includes credit card numbers, Social Security numbers,
unlisted phone numbers, and driver’s license numbers. Do not post or share
images/videos of minors without necessary consent from their legal guardians.
If you find such content, please report it here. Information already
available publicly or elsewhere online is typically not considered private
under our policy.
Impersonation and Misrepresentation
Do not use Blogger to mislead or confuse users by
impersonating any person or organization you are not affiliated with, or by
obscuring your identity or purpose. This includes directing political, social,
or public interest content to users in another country while misrepresenting
your country of origin or other key information. Satire, parody, pseudonyms,
and pen names are allowed—just don’t mislead readers about your true identity.
Illegal Activities
Do not use Blogger for illegal activities or to promote
dangerous, illegal behavior. For example, do not write blogs that promote drunk
driving or sell illegal drugs. In serious cases, such as child exploitation, we
may report users to law enforcement.
Regulated Goods and Services
Do not use Blogger to sell or facilitate the sale of
regulated goods/services such as alcohol, gambling, pharmaceuticals, unapproved
supplements, tobacco, fireworks, weapons, or medical/health devices.
Spam
Spam on Blogger comes in many forms, all of which may lead
to account or blog removal. Examples include blogs created to drive traffic to
other websites, blog comments used solely for promotion, or content scraped
from other sources to generate revenue or personal gain.
Malware and Viruses
Do not create blogs that spread viruses, pop-ups, malicious
software, or attempt to install software without user consent. This is strictly
forbidden.
Enforcement of Blogger Content Policies
Please report suspected violations via the “Report Abuse”
link found under the “More” dropdown menu on each blog, or click here.
Our team reviews user reports for policy violations. If a
blog does not violate our policies, no action will be taken. If a violation is
found, we may take one or more of the following actions depending on severity:
- Place
the blog behind an adult content warning screen
- Restrict
blog visibility so only the author can access it
- Remove
the blog, blog post, or offending content
- Disable
the author’s Blogger account access
- Disable
the author’s Google account access
- Report
the user to law enforcement
We may also take action if we find a user has created
multiple abusive blogs. If your blog is disabled, do not create a replacement
blog engaging in similar behavior.
